Easy access by foot, bike or car to new 24th Street fitness studio

A fitness studio emphasizing individual fitness needs has relocated to 24th Street. Studio Laurus owner Laurie Dakin sought a location closer to her Land Park home. Thanks to a real estate client’s tip, Laurie opened her new studio sharing the same building as Paula V Salon.

In contrast to the Studio’s former R Street spot, the new location has convenient parking in a residential area with an easy commute to fitness by walking or biking. Clients can park bicycles in a secure side yard.

The studio is equipped with a half dozen TRX straps, several Reformers, free weights and other exercise equipment. Classes include TRX, Pilates Reformer and yoga. Workouts are core based with an emphasis on functional and full-body fitness. According to Laurie, “Everything starts from your center.” Core-based exercises strengthen the midsection for a full-body workout.

Options include a drop-in class schedule and personal training — private or small group — with a program designed for workouts away from the studio. Alternatively, a hybrid mix of fitness classes may be designed, such as a combo of TRX and Pilates Reformer. Laurie seeks to “build community and offer what works for the neighborhood clientele.” Classes are open to women and men. “I believe people choose classes to fit their needs, regardless of gender,” said Laurie.

The studio is open by appointment for classes and training. The introductory monthly fee is $89 per month for a three-month commitment of unlimited classes. Or consider a 30-day drop-in and class pass for $30 for new members only.

As a welcome to neighbors, Studio Laurus offers five free community classes in TRX, Pilates and yoga per week. The complete schedule is listed at the studio’s website: www.studiolaurus.com.

This spring Studio Laurus will launch a nutrition program, RESTART, and will partner with holistic nutritionist Alexandra Gallus. RESTART is part sugar detox, part weight loss, part nutrition education and 100 percent support and guidance for studio participants. For more information, visit www. myfarmacynutrition.com.

Laurie plans outdoor classes in the rear patio once the weather warms up. Other future ideas include “community gatherings with healthy food, healthy living and fun,” said Laurie.

Studio Laurus is at 3444 24th St. For more info, call 206-1206.
