Introduction to Encaustic Painting – Create with Wax and Fire!
August 5 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm$105
At first the idea of painting with wax and fire may seem daunting but it’s not as complex as you might think! There is no other medium as forgiving, that can be worked in so many ways, and combined with so many other mediums that can achieve such a variety of luminescent and ethereal results. If this sounds intriguing to you, join me for an introduction to encaustic painting! No art experience necessary!
In Intro to Encaustic you will learn– a brief history of encaustic arts; all about materials, surfaces, tool usage, safety, surface preparation, wax application and fusing, incising and texture, collage and transfer techniques; as well as resources for further learning. You will leave this class with knowledge, inspiration and 2-3 small pieces you are excited about. Remember, the success in learning a new technique is that you LEARNED A NEW TECHNIQUE! GOOD WORK!
You will be provided with your own wood ‘canvas’ cut into smallish varying shapes between 5”x5” and 6”x8” and pre-primed. Everyone can experiment with a few small pieces to get a feel for the medium. Encaustic is a great medium for ‘round robin-ing’ between different pieces. Different techniques take a different amount of time. You can be carving into wax while your transfers set!
One caveat: encaustic painting is addictive and may leave you craving MORE. Be prepared to need your own set up by the end of the class!
This class will be 4 hours. Participants under 18 must have parental approval, please contact me ahead of time.
The cost of the class is $105.00 and covers all materials and supplies.
I have Paypal (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Square Cash ‘Catherine Schmiedt’. Deposit of half is required to secure your spot, please let me know if you’d like an invoice sent to you!
