Join for our second Senior Center Open House, September 27-29th for three days of free activities and special events for all seniors, recent retirees, and older adults in Sacramento! Sample the schedule of exercise classes from Tai Chi to Pilates, or stimulate the mind with one of our social clubs (think Book Clubs, or Film Club). Special activities include a lunch & learn with Maryellen Burns and Keith Burns, local authors discussing dining trends in Sacramento history. Join us Friday at noon for a special catered lunch in lieu of the monthly potluck.

All older adults are welcome so please invite your friends, family members, neighbors and anyone else who’d benefit from participation with their local Senior Center!

Wednesday, September 27th

Society for the Blind Presentation: 9:30-10:30 AM, Room 10
Resources and information for seniors with low-vision or visually-impaired.

Gentle Yoga: 10-11:15 AM, Room 12
Slow-paced yoga with props. Bring a mat!

Active Retirement Investing Talk: 11AM- 12PM,  Room 9
Update & learn about your retirement assets with Bill Bailey of Wealth Strategies.

Lunch & Learn: Lost Restaurants: 12-1:30PM, Room 10
Travel back in time listen as local food historians and authors Maryellen Burns and Keith Burns talk about dining trends over the last 150 years in Sacramento. Food generously provided by Eskaton Monroe Lodge.

Life History Writing: 1-4PM, Room 12
Write & share life stories

Film Club: The Princess Bride: 1-4PM, Room 9
Enjoy a film loved by viewers of all ages and engage in a fun discussion after.


Thursday, September 28th


Fitness Walking: 9:00-11:00 AM, Room 11
Get a trekking pole demonstration and then join Angela on a social 2-mile walk to William Curtis Park and back.

Tai Chi: 10:30-11:15 AM, Garden Room
Gently work the mind & body

Fall Prevention: 11:30AM- 12:45PM,  Room 11

Tech Talk: 11:30-12:30PM, Room 9
Learn a bit more about your computer, smartphone, and other technology. Led by tech specialists from A Leap Ahead IT.

Cooking with Heera: 12:45-1:45PM, Garden Room
Indian-inspired recipe demonstration. Menu includes a tangy Indian street snack food and an anti-inflammatory turmeric tea.

Fun Bridge: 1-4PM, Room 12
Players with some bridge experience welcome!

Chair Massage: 3:30-5:30PM, Room 11
Masseuse Sam Soun is back for this event! Enjoy a relaxing chair massage session with games and coffee while you wait.

Zumba Gold: 4:45-5:45PM,  Studio 2
With Two Rivers Dance Studio. Join instructor Lisa Renee in this easy-to-follow Zumba dance class, geared towards older adults. Important: this class is limited to 15 Open House participants. You MUST sign up to attend. First come, first serve. Please call us at (916) 452-3005 or email Katie.

Pilates with Lauren: 10:30-11:30AM, Studio 3
Core strengthening group class. Bring a yoga mat.

Healthy Back Class: 10:30AM- 11:30AM,  Room 12
Stretch & Strengthen your back to prevent future pain and injury.

Open Art Studio: 12:30-3:00PM, Room 11
Socialize while you get creative and crafty. Bring a current art project or color.

Pinochle: 12:30-3:00PM, Room 12
Trick-taking card game.

Lunch Reception: 12-1PM, Curtis Hall Courtyard
Fun catered lunch reception complete with raffle prizes and a printing press demo! Catering by Encore Catering.

My Story Project: 12:00-2:00PM, Curtis Hall
Learn about the group who captures memories on film. See past films and talk to members about ways to participate.

Dance Lessons: The Foxtrot 1:30-2:30PM, Room 10
Pick up the steps to the fun dance, The FoxTrot and dance to the tunes of Sinatra and Buble.

Coffee Stations will be available each day for all to enjoy.
