Sierra Curtis Neighborhood
Association
The Best Associations Are In Your Neighborhood
In the 1970's, Curtis Park residents banded together to save the
old Sierra School from demolition. Thus was born the Sierra Curtis
Neighborhood Association and a dynamic new center for cultural and
educational activities. Today SCNA manages the reborn Sierra School
as the Sierra 2 Center for the Arts and Community and works with
Sacramento officials, neighborhood businesses and affected residents
on common concerns.
The Sierra Curtis Neighborhood Association is on 24th Street
-- Right Next Door to You
Few neighborhoods are fortunate enough to have an active, well-managed
association working to bring neighbors together. SCNA gives the
Sierra Curtis neighborhood a common voice, family entertainment
and a community center, which is the architectural and social centerpiece
of the neighborhood.
There's a reason SCNA has become known as the most organized neighborhood
association in California. Here's a sample of what we do:
Family Events in 2008
Enjoy SCNA-sponsored annual events, including the Easter Hunt (March22),
Home & Garden Tour (April 26), the Neighborhood Yard Sale (May
31), Music in the Park (June 29, July 27, August 31) Curtis Fest
(September 20) and the ever-popular Wine Tasting & Silent Auction
(October 11). SCNA welcomes volunteers for all events. Please
call 452-3005 if you would like to volunteer for any of these fun
events!
Sierra 2 Center for
the Arts and Community
SCNA's Board of Directors manages this dynamic facility which provides
space for a wide variety of artistic, educational and recreational
activities. Neighbors attend activities here and the center's theater,
dance studios and meeting rooms for their own special events.
Community Problem Solving
Neighbors work together to impact toxic cleanup and long-range planning
for the Union Pacific Rail Yard, graffiti abatement, and neighborhood
crime prevention. SCNA's history of activism has prompted business
leaders and City Hall to seek our neighborhood's input on vital
decisions that affect Curtis Park residents.
Neighborhood Newspaper
The Viewpoint,
delivered by volunteers to 2,500 households, informs residents about
upcoming neighborhood events, mutual concerns and classes and events
held at Sierra 2.
The SCNA boundaries: Highway 99 on the east; Interstate 80 on the
north; Freeport Boulevard south of Fourth Avenue/the Union Pacific
