New neighborhood traffic management area in Curtis ParkA new Neighborhood Traffic Management area has been established in Curtis Park to help curb traffic problems for residents. What is now the fourth such traffic management area in the neighborhood, to be known as Heilbron Oaks, encompasses 420 homes. The City of Sacramento's Traffic Dept. will oversee the nearly two-year process of working with residents between Castro Way, Portola Way, 24th Street, and Franklin Boulevard. (Traffic along Franklin Boulevard will not be part of the planning area, but all other streets on the edge of and within the boundary area will be assessed.) A committee of 6-10 residents from the area will review and analyze traffic data over a six-to nine-month period before making recommendations on how to slow or deter traffic within the subject area. A budget of $25,000 will be available to pay for selected improvements such as speed humps, bumps, striping, bulb outs, signage, or other traffic calming measures determined suitable by the committee. Once the committee has a plan, it will be put to a vote by residents in the traffic management area and ultimately subject to the final approval of city council. Residents within the new traffic management area will soon receive a newsletter on the Heilbron Oaks Neighborhood Traffic Management Program with a survey addressing traffic observations and concerns. Those interested in serving on the committee should contact Deb Newton at 808-6739. |
