SCNA has partnered with SMUD to do its part in the fight against global
warming and support movement towards a footprint-free carbon-neutral community.
When a Curtis Park resident enrolls in SMUD's Greenergy program, the program
will donate $10 back to our neighborhood association. So contrary to what
Kermit may say
it is easy being green.
When you choose to support the use of earth-friendly renewable power
through the Greenergy program, you are making the choice for a cleaner,
healthier environment. Greenergy gives you the power to choose energy
created from renewable resources like the wind and sun. Participating
in the 100% program for a year has about the same environmental impact
as planting an acre of trees or not driving your car for eight months.
To date, the combined environmental impact of Greenergy participants
is comparable to planting over 70,000 acres of trees or removing more
than 31,000 cars from the road for one year. The park in Curtis Park is
just over 18 acres in size; if 18 neighbors join the Greenergy program
at the 100% level, it would have the same environmental impact as turning
that park into a forest. Let that visual serve as a small challenge to
support earth-friendly renewable resources.
The Greenergy program offers customers the ability to choose how "green"
they want to be. For $3 a month added to your bill, SMUD will match 50%
of your electricity needs with purchases of renewable power for use in
the SMUD power system. At $6 per month, SMUD will match 100% of your electric
needs with renewable power. It's that cheap and that powerful!
SMUD has made a commitment to match 40% of all Greenergy fees with production
of new renewable power plants. Last year, SMUD dedicated three wind turbines
at the Solano Wind Farm to produce renewable power for the Greenergy program.
Enrolling in the program is just a click of the mouse away, simply e-mail
green@sierra2 .org with your name
and address and state the option you prefer - the 50% or 100%. Or stop
by the Sierra 2 office for an enrollment brochure.
Support your local neighborhood association and join SMUD's Greenergy
program today, for a cleaner healthier environment tomorrow.
