Noted architect and book author to speak on co-housing July 11

Learn more about the benefits of co-housing at 6:30 p.m. on July 11 in the Garden Room. Architect Kathryn McCamant, co-author of "Co-housing: A Contemporary Approach to Housing Ourselves," will discuss her 25 years of experience designing and building award-wining, energy efficient, and sustainable co-housing communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Cake-tasting extravaganza July 12

Join Sacramento Self-Help Housing from 5:30-8 p.m. on July 12 in Curtis Hall for their annual cake-eating fest to raise money for those who need help locating safe, affordable rental housing. Event attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite cake, and may enter for a chance to win best-tasting or best-looking cake. Or simply attend to taste and vote for a favorite cake from among those available to taste. Individual tickets are $15; various sponsorship levels are available by calling 341-0593.

Learn the basics of starting a non-profit organization July 13

Wondering if starting a non-profit is for you? Learn the pros and cons, complete your state exemption application, your organization's mission statement, and much more. The workshop is presented by Another Choice, Another Chance and will be held in Curtis Hall from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on July 13. Local expert to discuss diabetes implications July 26

Heart Health , an educational series about the complications associated with diabetes, will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on July 26 in Curtis Hall. Ken Rogaski, MS, a Mercy Heart Institute exercise physiologist, who is experienced in preventative cardiac care for people with diabetes, will share advice, answer questions and lead an on-site blood pressure screening. Rogaski is the manager of the Mercy General Hospital Cardiac Conditioning Program. The event is free to the public. Register at (888) Diabetes extension 7427 or at the door.

Children's Italian summer camps in July and August

The Italian Cultural Society is again offering summer day camps for children at Sierra 2. Camps are available for both Ciao Piccoli (ages 2-5) and Ciao Italia (ages 6-14).
