Learn about organ donation June 14
The Senior Center's monthly Listen & Lunch will host a speaker from
the Golden State Donor Services program from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
on June 14. Often people are not quite sure what being an organ or tissue
donor involves and many mistakenly think that just putting the 'dot' on
their driver's license is all that is needed. Please consider taking an
hour out of your day to really get the facts and learn how you can contribute
in a life-giving way. For more information, please call Janice at 455-6339.
AARP Mature Driver Safety course offered on July 9-10
The Senior Center will once again host an AARP Mature Drivers Safety Course
from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on July 9 and 10. This is a two-part class and
both days must be completed in order to obtain a certificate for insurance
discounts. The class costs $10. Bring your own lunch. To register, please
call Janice at 455-6339.
Vacation time for Senior Center coordinator
Senior volunteers will be helping the Senior Center with its activities
for the week of June 18 while coordinator Janice Horne is on vacation.
Phone calls will be returned the following week. If you'd like to sign
up to help out, please call Janice by June 13 at 455-6339.
Senior Center booth at Flea Market a big success
A heart-felt thanks to the wonderful neighborhood friends who donated
items in support of the Senior Center fundraising effort at the annual
SCNA Flea Market. We were able to clear close to $700. Also, a much deserved
'Thank You" to all the seniors and friends who contributed their
time and efforts in preparation and running of the booth. It was a great
success!
Needlework and chitchat Recently, the women who meet weekly for crafts at the Sierra 2 Senior
Center decided a name change was in order to better describe what truly
goes on at their Friday afternoon meetings. Lucy Belanger, the acknowledged
expert by the group in all things related to needlework, stated it best.
"People think we're doing art or building things, but we're not,"
she said. "We do a lot of the old-fashioned style needlework crafts."
Lucy is sought after for her advice on knitting and crocheting. A few
of the other ladies do needlepoint, cross-stitch work or embroidery. The
women like the central location of the Senior Center because it provides
a place to both work and socialize. Friendships have been formed over
time, and others are welcome and encouraged to join them on Fridays from
2-3 p.m. at the Senior Center (Rm 12 of Sierra 2) to share in their conversation
and needlework. For further information, please call Janice at 455-6339.
