You may have noticed a handsome renovation of the building at 2620 21st
Street between and Second Avenue and Broadway. What was once a private
school and later a Sacramento Police Department training center, is now
the business location of Donald Joseph, Inc., an architecture and interior
design firm with 25 years of roots in Sacramento.
Husband and wife team, Donald and Corinne Fugina purchased the building
last June and have now completed most of the renovation to house the relocation
and expansion of their business formerly on S Street in midtown. Donald
is an architect and Corinne an interior designer. Their business handles
residential and commercial remodeling as well as new construction.
Previously, the couple's business was open only to those in the design
trades; their new location is open to the public. The first floor of the
building houses a large furniture showroom. The pieces are arranged to
simulate actual living areas and are completely accessorized. The rear
room of the showroom is designed as an example of loft living, a theme
the Fuginas thought appropriate with all the lofts being built around
the city. The loft kitchen even has a television hidden behind a two-way
mirror so that the television will become invisible when not in use.
The second floor houses the staff and also has ample space to spread out
fabric and building material samples from the large collection available
for viewing by clients.
The Fuginas strive for long-term appeal of the spaces they design and
furnish. "We like things to look good or better over time,"
said Donald.
"Its all about how you use a house," Donald says. "It's
my job to give you the tools to make the right decisions."
The Fuginas chose their Curtis Park location because of an affinity for
this part of Sacramento. They want people to feel welcome entering their
business.
Also housed in the building is Lyon Realty, temporarily upstairs until
the final wing of the building renovation is complete. Integrated Systems
Design, a home theater and surround sound business, will also be located
upstairs.
