Sacramento International Film Festival
at 24th Street Theatre

The Sacramento International Film Festival will host a large part of this year's films at the 24th Street Theatre. This is an exciting event for the Sierra 2 Center, which will be the venue for the festival's opening gala and the host site for several films throughout the festival held from March 28 to April 1.

The Sacramento International Film Festival showcases international films never before shown in Sacramento. Films are chosen that help foster greater understanding between cultures. Filmmakers will be on hand with stories from diverse communities around the U.S. and across the globe.

The film festival opens at

5:30 p.m. on March 28 with a gala

reception in the Garden Room of Sierra 2 followed by two screenings in the 24th Street Theatre. "The Pacific and Eddy," a film depicting one man's escape from the pain of death, will be shown at 6:15 p.m. followed at 8:45 p.m. with "The Elephant King," a thought-provoking story of Americans adrift in a world they don't fully understand. Both films will be followed by shorts.

"Paved With Good Intentions" will screen at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29 in the 24th Street Theatre. The story is a drama about two African American brothers; after one commits suicide, the other feverishly digs into his brother's past to prove he wasn't the golden boy everyone had thought. That same day at 6:30 p.m. "Soul of Justice" will be shown followed by "A Tailor in the Making."

"Uganda Rising" will screen at 3:30 pm. on Friday, March 30. This film depicts the two decades the Achili people of Northern Uganda have been caught in a civil war. Over one and a half million people have been displaced and over 25,000 children have been abducted to be used as soldiers and sex slaves. This documentary exposes the misery of war and poverty and the resilience of a people and their nation.

Also on March 30 at the 24th Street Theatre, the "World's Greatest Shorts" will be screened at 6:45 p.m. followed by "Kerrigan's Passion (Man Dancin')" at 8:45 p.m.

On April 1, beginning at 9 a.m. screenwriters will pitch their stories to a top agency executive. The public is invited. That same day more films will be screened, including "Environmental Visions" (11 a.m.), "April Fool's Shorts" (2 p.m.) and "Last Stop for Paul" (4 p.m.).

The Sacramento International Film Festival has gained a national reputation for its feature film, documentaries and independent shorts. The cost of attending the gala reception and two films that evening is $30; a pass for the full festival is $150 or $10 per screening. Other venues for the festival are the Crest Theater and the Toy Room Gallery at 907 K Street.
