Flea Market Enjoys a new, cooler day of the year on May 19thThe annual SCNA Flea Market is almost upon us. This favorite neighborhood event will enjoy a new date this year - Saturday, May 19 - rather than the traditional first Saturday in June. The June heat has been uncomfortable for many shoppers, venders and volunteers and so SCNA has responded with a new earlier date. Expect sunshine and pleasant temperatures. Flea Market sales will begin at 7:30 a.m. with shopping available until 2 p.m. at the Sierra Green, located directly behind the Sierra 2 Center. For those interested in becoming a vender, plenty of spaces are still available. Spaces are roughly 20 x 15 feet in size and can be obtained at a cost $30 for SCNA members or $45 for non-members; food vendor spaces are $50. All vendors must bring their own tables, chairs and canopies. Curtis Park neighbors are encouraged to participate as vendors. It's an excellent chance to empty out your garage and turn old stuff into cold cash. This year will prove to be another great year to find treasures at the Flea Market. Many of the old favorite sellers from previous years will be on hand as well as some new first-time venders. Everything from collectibles to vintage clothes, furniture and toys will be offered. To help you figure out if you have that missing copy of the Declaration of Independence or if grandma's painting hanging in the water closet all these years is by a great master, enjoy the Flea Market's newest addition - verbal appraisals for $5 an item by a licensed appraiser. Proceeds will be donated to the Sierra 2 Senior Center. On the food front this year, shoppers can enjoy BBQ from a new vendor, Mike's Smoking Hot BBQ, as well and many of the favorite food offered in past years. All in all a great year for the annual Flea Market is expected, so come on down on May 19. |
