SMUD will conduct a special workshop on household energy conservation
for Curtis Park Energy Stars on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30
p.m. The workshop will cover information on home insulation, weatherizing,
heating and cooling systems, solar and much more. The workshop is free
and a light lunch will be served.
To attend you must have signed the Curtis Park Energy Stars' pledge
and be willing to make a good-faith effort at reducing electric usage
in your home. The Energy Stars' pledge involves taking seven simple steps
such as converting four lights to compact fluorescent bulbs, cleaning
refrigerator coils, and changing furnace and air conditioning filters.
Households already making an effort toward energy conservation or those
giving it a try for the first time are welcome to participate in the Energy
Stars' effort. To date the 125 participating Curtis Park Energy Star households
have collectively reduced their electric consumption to 20 percent below
the Sacramento average.
"The Curtis Park Energy Stars program demonstrates how a grass
roots effort can make a difference and how neighbors working together
can change and inspire each other to save energy," said SMUD Director
Genevieve Shiroma of Portola Way when presenting a special recognition
plaque to the Energy Stars Steering Committee in August.
Energy Star participants receive a free e-newsletter each month with
tips on energy conservation and inspiring stories about steps other Energy
Star households in the neighborhood are taking to reduce their energy
consumption.
