A silent auction and raffle filled with art, jewelry, and other highly
desirable goods and services will be there for the bidding. No less important,
is the chance to see friends and neighbors while also contributing to
a good cause.
Whether you've experienced Curtis Park's premiere wine tasting occasion
over the last 16 previous years, or are new to the event, here's the scoop
Q: Who benefits from money raised at the Wine Tasting?
A: The proceeds will once again be used to help send Bret Harte Elementary
sixth graders to the Sly Park Science Camp, will assist the McClatchy
High School track team, and will allow the Sierra 2 Center to continue
with upgrades for the benefit of the entire Sacramento community.
Q: Who makes the Wine Tasting event possible?
A: Frank Cook and Cook Realty have once again stepped up to the plate
as the presenting sponsor. Other local businesses and service providers
have also agreed to participate as sponsors. Many others have donated
generously to the silent auction and raffle. Those in the neighborhood
who patronize the annual Wine Tasting & Silent Auction are also important
contributors.
Q: Who organizes the event?
A: The chairman of the Wine Tasting Committee is once again Bruce Gerth
of Castro Way, who has graciously donated his time as chair for the second
year in a row. The committee itself is comprised of an evolving group
of old and new faces, all of whom continue to give generous amounts of
time to keep the Wine Tasting happening year after year. r
Q: Who provides the abundance of wine at the event?
A: The approximately 50 wineries who will be providing the mainstay of
the event have been selected and organized by Dick Ebert of Taylor's Market.
Dick is also a Curtis Park neighbor on 23rd Street. Dick will add his
particular sensibility to the selection of wines and wineries from around
the world.
Q: Is there plenty of food at this event?
A: Fear not. Wine (or beer) and food are a natural pairing. There will
be at least 15 restaurants and caterers. Many of these will be local favorites
along with a few surprising newcomers, largely the result of the tireless
work of Meg Heede of 11th Avenue, who has been a mainstay of the event
organizing committee over the years.
Q: What about music?
A: Once again, music will be provided by Elements of Style, playing timeless
jazz, swing and bossa nova standards.
Q: May I bring my children, who are much better behaved than "Other
People's Children?"
A: Only if they are aged 21 or older. This is a wine tasting event and
is limited to adults.
Q: Will I have to start saving my money now?
A: Only if you intend to bid on all the high-end items available at the
silent auction. Tickets will still be the same bargain as in past years,
$30 for SCNA members, $40 for non members. (SCNA memberships are available
at Sierra 2 and at the event.)
Q: Where can I buy tickets?
A: They will be available at Taylor's Market and the Sierra 2 office.
They may also be purchased at Swanberg's new location at 21st and X Streets.
Or tickets may be purchased at the door.
